It seems like a natural order of things for a pregnant woman to gain weight. Her food cravings and the way her body processes food when pregnant contributes to her weight gain. But it is not unheard of for some women to go on a diet while pregnant. Obesity is one of the reasons why doctor would recommend dieting to some pregnant women.

Those who are obese are known to be high risks when it comes to pregnancy. C-sections are usually the norm for pregnant obese women because doctors would rather not deliver their babies the normal way. Moreover, obese women are more prone to gestational diabetes and hypertension. These are health complications that will not make their pregnancy run smoothly. Doctors often advise obese pregnant women to limit their food intake and not to gain any more weight.

But if you have a normal weight, it is not advisable for you to diet when you’re pregnant. If you limit your food intake simply because you don’t want to get really fat, you are endangering the life of your child. Many premature and undernourished babies are born to mothers who did not eat right while they were pregnant. If you want to give birth to a healthy baby but still remain healthy yourself, you should consider eating only foods that are good for you.
