Effectivity of Resveratrol Against the Flu

The flu virus plagues the whole world every year. This virus has many strains that fighting it effectively is near impossible. Furthermore, there are new strains that are being discovered every now and then that are wholly immune to flu antibiotics sold in pharmacies today. If we want to stay safe against the flu, all we can do is have annual vaccines, keep our immune system strong, and pray that everyone around us is healthy.

Unfortunately, even if we do all those, there really is no telling how safe we are from the flu virus. But there is now a compound that has the potential to protect us from this deadly virus. This compound is resveratrol. It can be found in red grapes, berries, and other plants. It is a very powerful antioxidant.

But it seems that resveratrol cannot be used to prevent flu. In lab studies, it has been proven that resveratrol works only after contracting the virus. In controlled tests, resveratrol works best if it is taken up to three hours after being infected by the virus. It is no longer as effective if taken more than 3 hours or up to nine hours after.
